Your Traffic Building Checklist: 15 Ways to Get More Visitors Who Are Ready to Buy (Part 2)

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

<< Part 2 of 2 >>

When many of my clients first come to me for coaching, they share that one of their biggest challenges is getting enough visitors to their site. Attracting traffic isn’t a cut and dry process there isn’t one perfect way to do it. But there are many ways that, when used collaboratively, will build you a nice stream of visitors.

To get your marketing wheels turning, check out these 15 simple ways to attract new visitors to your site. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but it will give you several fresh ideas to try.

Now, remember you don’t want to expel effort in getting just anyone to visit your site. You only want people who would likely be interested in what you have to offer. So before you read on, answer this question:

“WHO are your target clients or customers?”

Are they men, women, or both? Do they own a certain type of business or work in a certain profession? Are they young, old, or middle aged? Are they left handed? Do they own pets? Can they juggle?

I hope you see where I’m going here. The more you know about your ideal clients/customers, the better you’ll know where and how to find them .

So … keep that information in mind as you consider the remaining of my 15 traffic-building tactics. (See Part 1 (http://www.ezinequeen.com/traffic1.htm) for the first 7!)

___ 8. Recommendations by E-zine Publishers

Do you know anyone who publishes an e-zine for the same target market as yours? If you’re not direct competitors, ask her about cross-promoting each other. Example: My friend Wendy Weiss, “The Queen of Cold Calling,” publishes a great e-zine called “Opening Doors & Closing Sales” (www.wendyweiss.com). When we both launched our e-zines three years ago, I gave a two-paragraph recommendation for her site in my own e-zine, and she returned the favor by doing the same for me. That one exchange resulted in hundreds of new visitors (and subscribers) for each of us!

___ 9. Recommendations by Other Site Owners

ISame idea as #8. Many sites offer a “recommended resources” page, so why not get listed on them? Find sites whose target market matches yours and ask if they’d recommend your site. You’ll get more yeses if you offer to list them on your site as well. (This strategy used to also be very powerful to help increase your search engine rankings, but not so much anymore.)

___ 10. Affiliate Programs

Grow your own sales force by offering a handsome commission on your products and services. While this requires you to give away some profits on those sales, they’re sales you would not have had otherwise. Right now almost HALF of my sales come from traffic sent to my site by my affiliates. Best of all, you can track and pay your affiliates automatically using programs like ClickBank (electronic deliverables only, zzz.clickbank.net/r/?ezinequeen) or KickStart Cart (a superior version of 1ShoppingCart, www.netofficetoolbox.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=36923), which handles both electronic and physical goods.

___ 11. Your E-mail Sig File

You’re probably familiar with e-mail signature (or “sig”) files they’re the few lines of contact information that many of us put at the bottom of every e-mail we send. Add a few additional lines to your sig file that give us a reason to visit your site. Perhaps you’re having a special sale now or you’re giving away a free report, e-book, or e-zine subscription. Remember, e-mails get forwarded around all the time, so take advantage of this free exposure. (For more tips on sig files, see my article “Make Your E-mail Sig File Work for You” at www.ezine-queen.com/sigfile.htm.)

___ 12. Exposure in Print, Radio, and TV

You can drive hundreds or even thousands of new visitors to your site with the right media exposure. Again, no matter how great your interview or article is, people need a kick in the pants to visit your site. So give them something free that they have to come GET at your site. For help in generating publicity at $0 cost to you, check out veteran broadcaster George McKenzie’s Get Free Publicity program at www.automateyourwebsite.com/app/aftrack.asp?afid=73137.

___ 13. Speaking to Groups

Nothing leaves more of an impact on people than an in-person presentation. At each appearance, collect your participants’ e-mail addresses by offering something free (your free report, e-book, or e-zine subscription). The day after the event, send them a reminder to visit your site to pick up their free gift! My friend Tom Antion’s site www.netofficetoolbox.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=37477 offers tons of advice and resources on speaking for exposure and profit.

___ 14. Postcard Mailings

One of the most overlooked tactics in today’s marketing world is the humble postcard. Postcards are a fast, easy, and reliable way to increase visitors to your site. Best of all, they’re the ideal way to break through the online clutter and get your prospects’ attention! For a failsafe, step-by-step postcard marketing plan, look to my own marketing mentor, Alex Mandossian. He offers a wonderful tutorial package called Marketing With Postcards (www.marketingwithpostcards.com).

___ 15. Sheer Shamelessness

If you live in the Los Angeles area, there’s a good chance you’ve seen “EzineQueen.com” whiz by you at speeds in excess of 70 m.p.h. Why? It’s emblazoned across the back of my black SUV in large, lime-green letters! At least once a month I get a friendly e-mail from someone who saw my giant URL and, out of curiosity, visited my site. A few of them have even turned into customers. Lesson learned? Think out of the box! For help in this area, see Debbie Allen’s “Confessions of Shameless Self Promoters” series. Make Money Online with the Reese Report

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

If you’re wondering whether it’s really possible for an “average joe” to make money with Google Adsense, then now is the time to finally get going and start your own internet business.

If you’ve read about making money online over the past month, you’ve almost certainly heard of John Reese. John is an internet marketing expert and has been running his own internet business since shortly after the internet was created.

In February 2005, John decided to set up a test – to see if it was truly possible to make money with Google Adsense. The results are staggering – in less than a year, he has earnt $526,744.35 in Adsense earnings – that’s over half a million dollars in just twelve short months.

John claims to have done this in less than 150 hours work! Mind you, he is the expert!

That said, there are just two things he gets excited about (if it was me it’d be about 526,744 things!):-

  1. His first 93 cents – this proved that his idea was possible!
  2. The fact that this is residual income – he can continue building his other internet businesses and this money will keep on rolling in!

These sites are not about internet marketing, but about ordinary, everyday subjects where John has identified that a Niche market exists.

It seems like now is the time to be starting your own online business, there are plenty of opportunities available for people with enthusiasm, determination and the will to succeed! People like John prove that it is possible to make money online, the only question is, are you willing to try?

You can find out more about his monthly newsletter, at Reese Report

How to Get Your Traffic to Take Off in a Hurry without Paying a Dime

Friday, June 5th, 2009

The desire of every webmaster and in fact anybody with some sort of web presence, it to increase their traffic in a hurry. Higher traffic automatically means more revenue for the website, it hardly matters what the websites’ business is. Increasing traffic is hard work and usually takes time. One can however work hard at doing the following things and speed up the process.

Submission to online directories Many online directories have an option for free submission of sites. Despite this there are still many webmasters who do not take advantage of this. Submission to directories definitely improves search engine rankings which are the key to high traffic coming in the direction of your websites. The trick is to allocate some time every day for this search engine optimization task.

Articles writing and posting Articles really work miracles when it comes to increasing traffic in a hurry. This is mainly because they efficiently accomplish two important traffic tasks. Articles are very effective search engine optimization tools and they are also effective in getting any site immediate traffic. Search engine rankings are greatly influenced by the number of quality links pointing to your site. Well written informative articles posted all over the net instantly create links to your site, but there is something else that happens automatically and constantly. And that is, if the article is any good, it will get re-posted often and a viral effect will take over that will increase links to your site further. Only this time, it is without any effort on your side. This is also something that will continue forever and can reach a point where it will be rapid and end up giving a single site hundreds of thousands of links. This will dramatically improve your search engine ranking and thus the traffic you receive from the search engines. Informative articles will also tend to act very quickly in getting traffic to a site once they have been posted in just a few high traffic article directories and sites.

Give incentives for current visitors to refer others The next thing to do is to build up on the traffic that you are already receiving. Go out of your way to encourage your visitors to refer their friends and acquaintances to your site. There are various viral marketing techniques that can be used here. One of the ones that has proved to be extremely effective is the idea of starting an affiliate program. That is exactly how giant sites like Amazon grew into their current size. Carefully study other sites similar to yours and decide what the most effective viral marketing technique for you will be.

10 Cool Ways To Attract People To Your Web Site

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

1. Give people a free subscription to your e-zine.
Almost everyone is publishing a e-zine nowadays
so it’s important to give something extra with the
free subscription. You could offer a free gift or
advertising when people subscribe.

2. Provide your visitors with free content. Your
content will be more attractive to your visitors if
it’s up-to-date or original. You could also offer
people the option to reprint the content in their
e-zine or web site.

3. Offer a free online directory. The directory
could be full of interesting ebooks, e-zines, web
sites etc. If people find your directory to be a
valuable resource they will visit it over and over.

4. Give your visitors a free ebook. You could
also include your own ad in the ebook and allow
other people to give it away. If you don’t want to
take the time to write one, you could ask other
writers permission to use their articles.

5. Hold free online classes or seminars. They
could be held in your web site’s chat room. The
idea of “live” information will definitely entice
people to visit your web site. You will become
known as an expert on the topic.

6. Give visitors a free entry into your contest or
sweepstakes. The prizes should be something of
interest or value to your visitors. Most people
who enter will continually revisit your web site to
get the results.

7. Let visitors download free software. It could
be freeware, shareware, demos etc. You could
even turn part of your site into a free software
directory. If you created the software, include
your ad inside and let other people give it away.

8. Offer free online services or utilities from your
web site. They could be search engine submitting,
copy writing proofreading etc. The service or
utility should be helpful to your target audience.

9. Give free consulting to people who visit your
web site. You could offer your knowledge via
e-mail or by telephone. People will consider this
a huge value because consulting fees can be very
expensive.

10. Give your visitors a free membership to your
online club. People want to belong to something,
why not your online club. You could also give
away a free e-zine for club members only.

How to gain and retain online customers!

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

It’s the most basic rule of business: you need to sell some to earn some. Salesmanship therefore, or the art of closing a sales, is of paramount importance for any business venture. After all, we can’t expect any earnings if we don’t make any sales

Winning customers is essential for the success of our enterprise. And this is also true for online businesses. In fact, some would say that winning customers online has its share of pros and cons. The good news is that the entire world is your market, and you could potentially reach more people through the World Wide Web. The disadvantage? The Internet offers a more impersonal channel in our dealings with people, making it more difficult to garner their trust and favour.

So what are we to do then? Fear not, dear friend. As with everything else in life, we should try to accentuate the positives to compensate for the negatives. Here are a few ways by which you could gain a good number of customers, and keep them for a long and profitable business for you and your family.

Always deliver quality goods or services. There is no better vehicle for our business message than our products themselves. Consistently offering things that are more than worth our customers’ time and money will brand us as enterprises that are committed to quality products and services. This would only serve us well in future dealings with the same clients. Additionally, this would make our clients as advertising vehicles for our business as well, as they would spread the word about the excellence of our service to people belonging to their network.

Always try to over-deliver. People love receiving more than what they paid for. If you consistently give them some extras, their minds would be conditioned to trust your business for future transactions.

Provide bonuses. In addition to the product you’re selling, add some more goods that would perk up the package. Do this in a manner that you will make your customers aware of the value of the bonuses if they were otherwise purchased. This would definitely increase the worth of your product, and such would make it more favourable for a successful sale. Additionally, your bonuses would foster good will with your clients, and this could go a long, long way for future orders.

Build relationships. The importance of building good relationships with your customers cannot be undermined. As we’ve discussed earlier, the Internet is a rather informal venue for personal dealings. So try to humanize your approach so that your customers can relate to you as someone who is more than just a business provider, but also as a friend.

Make use of a mailing list. A mailing list is an Internet marketers number one weapon. By capturing the contact details of people who may not have been interested with their current offer, they will be able to condition the same people for future sales. And this could serve their businesses well for quite a long time, as one successful sale can beget another and another after that. So invest on an excellent autoresponder service and prepare those follow-up messages well. Take good care of your subscriber base, and they will take good care of your business in return.

Winning customers is more than just luck. It entails a lot of strategizing and good planning. Retaining customers involve the same level of commitment as well. In the highly competitive world of online marketing, trust plays an integral role in achieving our goals. Try your best to win your customers’ trust. Take care of it. And for sure, this trust would fuel good business for you for many years to come.

Traffic/Hit Exchanges, How to get More from Them.

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

A Traffic /Hit Echanges is an advertising medium where if you agree to look at the ads of others then they will see yours. Not ads actually but your website. From the psychological standpoint all the other sites are already involved with something so why would they sign up for something you are advertising but you can choose the category of the type of sites you will be looking at and the type of people who will be looking at yours. For example if your site was selling appliances then in the category section, when setting up the details of your site, you would choose shopping.

Plus even if they are involved with something already they still might like to look at other possibilities. I’ve noticed that most Interent Marketers are all involved in multiple streams of income. If your website copy is good then people will look past the landing page, which this also pertains to free classified sites and FFA site is if your headline is good enough to grab people attention then the likelihood of positive results are even greater.

Now a lot of people may be saying that these exchanges are as useless as FFA sites but I have seen a lot of marketers who are making full time income’s on the Net using these Exchanges and these people will only make use of advertising that are producing results. In their earlier days a lot of people would just keep IE running displaying these other sites but nowadays you have to view a site for anywhere from 10 seconds to half a minute then click on a specific image in order to advance to the next site. This way the exchanges know that somebody is actually viewing these sites on their network, not using some software that automaticall surfs for them.

Now there are still ways to use these Exchanges and get results without having to shell out any money for the purchase of credits. I use a tabbed Browser that I got from a freeware site and I have a different Exchange on each tab. Sometimes I may have a dozen or more exchanges running at the same time. The way i do this is after one exchange asks me to find a certain icon and I click on it i then tab one over and do this on the next eaxchange. I think one night I actually earned apriximately 400 credits per exchange on 4 different exchanges. This only took a few hours but I had nothing else going on at the time.

Now on a few exchanges that i though were pretty effective I have purchased extra credits which are not expensive at all. maybe about $10 for 1,000= credits which if the exchange had a 5:1 ratio would translate into 200 displays of my site which can be a lot cheaper than PPC.. I also want to add that if your Webpage has a good design that invites viewers want to get more information then those 200 displays of your site could turn into 20 to 40 people wanting to be added to your list of subscribers, or shoppers, or future clients and if they like your site then they may tell others thus creating a viral effect.

If you want to find out who the best Exchanges are of the week on a weekly basis then subscribe to the HitexchngeNews. If you want to find out about a good Browser then email me and I’ll reply with my opinion.

Traffic Exchanges – Do They Work?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Traffic exchanges, also known as hit exchanges and start exchanges, are a very simple means of driving traffic to a website.

Being in a traffic exchange is like being in a club. You surf, using a specially designed “surf bar” unique to the traffic exchange in question, and view the other club member’s websites. Every time you view a website you get a credit, or a point, and these are exchanged for visitors who view your website. Normally there is a “ratio” involved and – for free members – it is often one return visitor for every two websites that you view.

Most exchanges are free to join but many have a “pro upgrade” option where you can get a better view/return view ratio (say 1:1) for a monthly fee, typically a few dollars a month. The large majority of members in the typical exchange are free members.

Traffic exchanges are much maligned – there are many who will tell you that they don’t work. One of the main reasons cited for this is the fact that most of the traffic exchange members are members of the exchange primarily because they are already promoting a business opportunity or product of their own.

Whilst this is almost certainly true it does not necessarily mean that they will not be interested in what you are promoting. If you are offering either an informational product or any kind of tool which could be used to enhance an already existing business then the members of traffic exchanges could very well be an excellent target market for you.

For example, if you have an e-zine newsletter aimed at online marketers, then traffic exchanges could offer you very rich pickings indeed.

One of the most common mistakes is to sign up for an affiliate scheme and then use the standard website that comes with the program on traffic exchanges. This is a waste of time as the exchange members will not have enough time to view the typical information rich affiliate website. It is also likely that there will be several others promoting the exact same website on any given exchange – so your site will blend in to the background and will have little, if any, impact.

However, just by following the guidelines below you can use traffic exchanges to build your opt-in list and then follow up later with your affiliate offerings.

  1. Don’t use the standard page that came with your affiliate programme.

It has too much information and will confuse viewers.

There are probably many other people advertising this page.

  2. Use a specially designed gateway page unique to you.

    Keep it clean and uncluttered

    Focus on benefits.

Five or six bullet points only.

    Stand out from the crowd.

  3. Use a pop-up or pop-in for emphasis.
  4. Give away a free bonus for signing up.

    A free e-book.

    A free report.

    A free newsletter.

  5. Collect e-mail addresses for follow up.

    Feed them into an autoresponder.

Put them into your newsletter list.

  6. Customise your gateway page for the exchange you’re using.

Have a special message for your visitor -

    “Traffic Swarm user bonus….”

    “Webmaster Quest bonus…”

  7. Monitor your results and don’t waste time with exchanges that don’t deliver.
  8. Don’t persevere with an unproductive campaign for too long.

Let your campaign run for 4 weeks max and then experiment if you aren’t seeing results.

  9. Advertise on a number of different exchanges to ensure a wide range of visitors.

Don’t waste hours every day clicking on traffic exchanges – they are only one method for growing your list and you should be using a number of different techniques. However, using the above rules, it should be possible to achieve double digit signups to your opt-in list or newsletter on a daily basis.

What Do You Do With Your Web Site Traffic?

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Have you ever noticed how much everybody talks about Internet marketing? It seems to be one of the hottest topics on the Internet over the past few years.

The funny thing about it is that with all the talk that has been going on very few people actually understand some of the fundamental principles of Internet marketing.

For example, what is the most important aspect of your Internet marketing campaigns? What is the most important area to focus on in order to make your business succeed?

If you answered “getting traffic to my website” then you are not alone. This is one of the most troubling subjects on most webmasters’ minds.

But it is the WRONG answer!

What you should worry about most is “What do you do with the traffic that your website already receives?”

Are you throwing it away? Perhaps you are only really holding onto about 1% of it, maybe even less!

Before even considering what you are going to do to drive more traffic to your website you need to consider this topic first.

For example, let’s say that you are already getting 500 visitors a day (that’s rather healthy). You sell some sort of product that costs $50 and make on average 2 sales a day (not bad at all!).

However, you want to double your sales. There are two ways you can do this. It is obvious that for every 500 visitors you are getting 2 sales. That means that you could increase your traffic by 500 visitors a day in order to obtain your goal. That’s pretty easy math isn’t it?

That’s what most people do! They say: “Well, I’m making $50 a day with 200 visitors, so if I get 400 visitors a day then I can make $100!” Then they go off to spend their money on increasing their traffic. Hey, if they can double their traffic for less than $50, then it’s a good deal!

HOWEVER, there is another way to double your sales. Think about it this way: You are only converting 2 out of every 500 visitors into customers! That’s a 0.4% conversion rate.

What you could do instead is improve your website so that you double your conversion rate. That means that you would get 4 sales for every 500 visitors. And guess what? You are already getting the 500 visitors!

Don’t look at it as if you are making 2 sales a day; look at it as if you are losing 498 sales every day. How much longer do you want to lose 498 sales?

So how do you increase your conversion rate? Well, your website probably can’t get any worse than it is right now, so why not change it?

Here are a few basic things that you can do:

1. Track everything that you do.

If you don’t know the conversion rate of your website, look up your traffic logs and write down the average number of visitors you get every day. Then look up your sales records and find out how many sales you get every day. Write this down.

2. Make small changes to your website.

Don’t change a lot. Maybe clean up your navigation menu a bit. Change the header on your sales letter. Change the background color or image. The key here is to only make small changes.

3. Track what happens next.

Now watch your traffic and sales for the next week or so. Did you notice a difference? Did it get better? Did it get worse? If it got better then keep whatever it is you did. If it got worse, then revert back to your old design.

4. Repeat steps 1 to 3.

Now go back and record how you are doing. Make another small change and see if it makes a difference.

This may sound like a lot of work (and it is), but I guarantee that it will help you to make higher profits on your website, without spending a dime on advertising!

If there is one difference that I have noticed between successful marketers and unsuccessful marketers it is that they test and they track EVERYTHING that they do. If you don’t know how well you are doing, how are you going to improve?
