Poker Play: those First Two Cards

Monday, September 29th, 2008

In Texas Holdem, there are no cards more important than the first two cards. Understanding the first two cards and how they function in a game of Texas Holdem is a key to any aspiring card sharks success. It may seem that this is not how it really works, but if someone takes the time to think about it they will invariably come to the decision that in Texas Holdem the first two cards are almost the entire hand.

The reason the first two poker cards are so important is the potential they create. Those first two cards will determine if you even have a chance in the game. While there is always a chance that the cards that come out during the rest of the Texas Holdem hand can make nothing into something. The odds are not in your favor. For this reason it is wise to follow a series of rules about keeping or pitching the first two cards.

For the most part keeping cards is not near as important as knowing when to dump cards. If you have two low cards that are neither sequential or suited, your best bet is to dump them. Also if you have a pair that is under a pair of Jacks, chances are you won’t win the hand and should pitch those as well. However if you have a hand with high cards or a suited pair of cards, stick with it at least a couple rounds, see if it will turn into anything.

What Christmas Gifts Do People Actually Want?

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

If you are aimlessly buying Christmas presents for people with hopes that just one of those things will please them, then you need to read this article. It would be a great idea to get them a gift card and let them choose what they really want and then you can spend the rest of the day enjoying each others company.

Christmas gets more extravagant every year. Everyone says that Christmas will be different next year but it will be the same boring holiday. When we are gift buying for adults, do we really need to go bonkers? Kids get excited for gifts, but adults buy for themselves what they want to have most of the time.

The obstacle occurs, because everyone has different tastes. The theory espoused is apparently that if you buy a lot of things, eventually you will hit on something that pleases the receipient. It it best to do research before you put the time and effort into going all out for someone. You need to get opinions from people who are sure of what they are looking for. Asking very specific questions throughout the year will aid you in finding the perfect gift. This will hopefully stop you from buying those useless gadgets and trinkets. There isn’t anything wrong with a gift card when ideas elude you. You can personalize these with a few home-baked cookies or ornaments, or with a personalized card that lets them know that you wanted them to have the last say about their gift. The point is that spending all day surrounded by presents is no match for the gift of family and friends being together.

While gift cards may be considered a bit impersonal, it is better than getting that loved one a gift they do not need or like. Gift cards are a great back-up plan when research and questioning have failed to provide you with any ideas. Most of the time people don’t know what they want, or won’t answer if they do. There are lots of ways to give pleasure to this group. Here is a great site for some personalize gift ideas for everyone.

Traffic Exchanges – Do They Work?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Traffic exchanges, also known as hit exchanges and start exchanges, are a very simple means of driving traffic to a website.

Being in a traffic exchange is like being in a club. You surf, using a specially designed “surf bar” unique to the traffic exchange in question, and view the other club member’s websites. Every time you view a website you get a credit, or a point, and these are exchanged for visitors who view your website. Normally there is a “ratio” involved and – for free members – it is often one return visitor for every two websites that you view.

Most exchanges are free to join but many have a “pro upgrade” option where you can get a better view/return view ratio (say 1:1) for a monthly fee, typically a few dollars a month. The large majority of members in the typical exchange are free members.

Traffic exchanges are much maligned – there are many who will tell you that they don’t work. One of the main reasons cited for this is the fact that most of the traffic exchange members are members of the exchange primarily because they are already promoting a business opportunity or product of their own.

Whilst this is almost certainly true it does not necessarily mean that they will not be interested in what you are promoting. If you are offering either an informational product or any kind of tool which could be used to enhance an already existing business then the members of traffic exchanges could very well be an excellent target market for you.

For example, if you have an e-zine newsletter aimed at online marketers, then traffic exchanges could offer you very rich pickings indeed.

One of the most common mistakes is to sign up for an affiliate scheme and then use the standard website that comes with the program on traffic exchanges. This is a waste of time as the exchange members will not have enough time to view the typical information rich affiliate website. It is also likely that there will be several others promoting the exact same website on any given exchange – so your site will blend in to the background and will have little, if any, impact.

However, just by following the guidelines below you can use traffic exchanges to build your opt-in list and then follow up later with your affiliate offerings.

  1. Don’t use the standard page that came with your affiliate programme.

It has too much information and will confuse viewers.

There are probably many other people advertising this page.

  2. Use a specially designed gateway page unique to you.

    Keep it clean and uncluttered

    Focus on benefits.

Five or six bullet points only.

    Stand out from the crowd.

  3. Use a pop-up or pop-in for emphasis.
  4. Give away a free bonus for signing up.

    A free e-book.

    A free report.

    A free newsletter.

  5. Collect e-mail addresses for follow up.

    Feed them into an autoresponder.

Put them into your newsletter list.

  6. Customise your gateway page for the exchange you’re using.

Have a special message for your visitor -

    “Traffic Swarm user bonus….”

    “Webmaster Quest bonus…”

  7. Monitor your results and don’t waste time with exchanges that don’t deliver.
  8. Don’t persevere with an unproductive campaign for too long.

Let your campaign run for 4 weeks max and then experiment if you aren’t seeing results.

  9. Advertise on a number of different exchanges to ensure a wide range of visitors.

Don’t waste hours every day clicking on traffic exchanges – they are only one method for growing your list and you should be using a number of different techniques. However, using the above rules, it should be possible to achieve double digit signups to your opt-in list or newsletter on a daily basis.

3 SIMPLE TRICKS FOR QUICKLY, EASILY AND CHEAPLY GETTING THOSE FIRST VISITORS TO YOUR WEB SITE

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

There are two tactics that you have probably heard a lot of these days: AFFILIATE PROGRAMS and OPT-IN EMAIL. No doubt these are two POWERFUL tools of generating online income and sales. There is a catch though… they only work if you are ALREADY getting the necessary traffic to your web site.

So, like all other new e-business owners, you must be stressing over ways to get, not JUST traffic to your website, but TARGETTED TRAFFIC! Really, it is simpler and cheaper than you think! The key is to FOCUS your efforts. Don’t try and do everything at once. Take one step at a time. This way you will get BETTER results.

METHOD 1: Advertise in Newsletters and E-Zines

Carefully choose which newsletters and e-zines you wish to purchase your ad space with. Choose ones that have subscribers that match or almost match your target market. They must be people who could potentially be your customers. Choose ones with a medium to large subscriber-base. This way you will get you investments worth. Take note of where your ad will be placed. It could be at the top, middle, bottom…anywhere in the newsletter. The best spots are at the top of the newsletter and on a page where readers are most likely to spend most of their time at. Also take note of other ads that might be surrounding yours. You don’t want to place your ad next to a competitor’s. This will lessen your chances of potential clicks. The size of your ad also influences the location of your ad.

METHOD 2: Use Keywords and a Crawler Page to Secure that Top Spot in Search Engines

Your target market will NEVER find your web site if you have been using the WRONG keywords! Search engines look for them in your Title Tags, Meta Tags, and the body of your text when ranking and categorising your web site.

When choosing keywords, be sure not to choose words that are highly competitive like business, books, software. These are too generic and will make it super difficult for you to secure that top spot! In order to find TARGETED keywords that are suitable for YOUR web site, sit down and have a good and long think of what someone looking for your site might type into the search engines. Remember, no one knows your business more than YOU! Ask around; ask your family and friends what THEY might type when looking for your product or service. Be SPECIFIC yet GENERAL. For example if your site offers services to help businesses go online, you might use the following keywords: online business, online businesses, start online business, online business help, online business services etc. Use as many variations of your keywords as possible and include your company name and region if applicable. Also, study what keywords your competitors are using on their web sites.

Most search engines like Alta Vista and Yahoo ask that you submit just one URL and that they will follow all the links and find the rest of the pages in your web site. You can make it easier for them by creating a page called a CRAWLER PAGE with links to all of the most important parts of your site and submit that instead. Thus, ensuring that the right pages will be noticed.

To create a Crawler Page in Internet Explorer: 1. Choose Favourites > Organise Favourite A dialog box appears. 2. CLICK on Create Folder and give your folder a name e.g. “Site Crawler Page” 3. CLOSE the dialog box. 4. Go to the pages on your site that you want to be sure the site engine finds. 5. Choose Favourites > Add to Favourites A dialog box appears. 6. Click on Create in<< and choose your crawler folder e.g. "Site Crawler Page". 7. Click OK. 8. When you have finished adding all the pages you want, choose File >Import and Export. 9. An Import/Export Wizard will appear. Use it to create an HTML file of your crawler page favourites folder. 10. Upload the page to your server and submit it to the search engines you want to be listed on.

You might want to register your site with a search engine that specialises in your particular topic. Yahoo has a very complete list of specific category search engines. Wordtracker is a powerful free service that can help you find out which keywords will skyrocket your traffic and boost your ranking in search engines. Visit http://www.wordtracker.com/ for more information on Wordtracker.

METHOD 3: Place Links in Related Web Sites

Persuading other related sites in your industry to link to YOU is another effective way of directing highly targeted traffic to your web site. Many marketing gurus will agree that it is carries the same effect as a personal recommendation. A link from another highly respected source creates your credibility even BEFORE the visitor reaches your web site, hence increasing their potential to become your customer!

Make sure you do your RESEARCH and when you have found the web sites that deal directly with your target market, don’t forget to record down the contact information for the web site owners. When you contact them, show them how your web site will benefit THEM and THEIR visitors. Don’t talk about how you will benefit and how fantastic your web site is. Explain WHAT’S IN IT FOR THEM!

So there you go! 3 simple ways to get that targeted traffic to your web site! You already have the killer web site and the product/ service that people want AND you can get the targeted TRAFFIC to your web site and covert your visitors to paying customers!

Now you can start growing your own opt-in email list and advance to affiliate programs!

Terrific SUVs to be won at Windeprijsvraag.nl online this week

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Really anyone can win great swimming pools now every 21 months even if you live in Florence Alabama or in Minnetonka Minnesota, isn’t that marvelous. That’s why there are absolutely fantastic TVs to win at fun website and cyber sweepstakes this year. 9 weeks ago also a Belgium online company took of a contest website and is also legally indifferently.

Internet sweepstakes and online promotions are banned from postulating a purchase to enter. Easy sweepstakes are also legally different from the online contests in Martinez California. Sweepstakes are for the most part much more sluttish and faster to enter than fun websites. Funny online contests are tempered much more different than the winners who are not chosen by chance but by an piece of skill. Online actions advertised as online game contests, until now, can postulate an entry fee or manifest of bribe. That should be really great to win laptops worth 802 euro and that easy. Entering online sweepstakes by mail is worsening in well known popularity nowadays. Lots of more contest websites are choosing to enter online easy sweepstakes.

More on Complexity and the Lemon Vehicle

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Remember when you opened the hood of your car and saw the ground beneath the engine? Now you open the hood and there’s not enough room left in there for an underfed mouse. The space shuttle cockpit is child’s play by comparison. Do people actually work on this thing! Not unless they have fingers like a Rhesus monkey, can see through solid metal like Superman, and have advanced degrees in engineering and computers. That’s right computers!

These days if the seat temperature isn’t controlled to a 10th of a degree the consumer doesn’t want it. Pretty soon the seats will vibrate like those heart-shaped beds at the No-Tell Motel.

Okay, okay! Perhaps I’m getting a little carried away. The complexity of modern vehicles has grown extraordinarily in the last fifteen years. It isn’t enough that these vehicles have design flaws. It isn’t enough that attention to real quality has fallen by the wayside. Now even the mechanics are bewildered. When faced with diagnosing a problem the average mechanic must employ a confusing array of computerized test equipment. This is a guess, but I estimate that this so-called sophisticated test equipment isn’t even in the right problem area 50% of the time.

There was a time when the mechanic started the engine, listened, or maybe drove it around the block after which he would tell you what was wrong, and he’d be right a large part of the time. Now they connect your vehicle to an engine test stand that looks like something from Apollo mission control. More often than not the computer will say you don’t have a problem or that you have a problem that isn’t vaguely related to what you are experiencing.

You protest. The mechanic says, wisely. “The test equipment doesn’t lie, it’s computer controlled!” He says this with the assurance of someone who still believes in the tooth fairy, and that children are conceived under cabbage leaves. It is only later that you might think to say, “Wasn’t the computer programmed by humans?” And how about the old saying, “to err is human? Or GIGO: this is a computer programmer thing. I means ‘garbage in, garbage out’.”

Here’s the point of all this. There are many reasons why you happened to get a “Lemon”. You were not, however, personally selected by Ford, Volkswagen or God to be punished because you are a bad person. The thing to remember is that you can do something about it. Whatever you do don’t assume that the dealership and its technicians know what’s wrong with your vehicle, or that all that wonderful test equipment can figure it out.

You want the complexity gone from your life. Prediction is the basis of sanity. If you are constantly wondering if your vehicle is going to stall in traffic, the unpredictability of it all can be pretty darn depressing.

The first step to handling is to understand how it happened and next determine how you can fight for your rights. The understanding part is one of the reasons you are here reading this essay. Your Lemon Law attorney can help with the rest.

Website Wallflowers Have No Link Popularity!

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Link popularity is a measure of your website’s popularity based on the number of links to your website. That is perhaps the simplest explanation possible.

But why is the measuring of inbound links important? Well, even the best designed website isn’t worth much when no one is visiting… So, after building a website it is important it appear high in search engine rankings. The most popular search engines use link popularity in their ranking algorithms (how sites are evaluated). Improving link popularity moves sites up in the ranking and a high position in search results is the goal of most webmasters.

Link Popularity – In the Beginning

As always, you should start increasing your link popularity from the moment you begin preparing the site itself. Make sure your pages look professional. Your site’s content should be well prepared and navigation thorough the site must be as easy as possible.

Carefully check for spelling errors, validate HTML code and outbound links, be sure your pages load quickly. People won’t wait more than 3 for 4 seconds to see your page.

If you don’t pay careful attention to all the details of your site you just won’t have a chance to score above average link popularity. Search engines down grade sites with many misspelled words and broken hyperlinks.

If you submit a carelessly constructed web site to a web directory you will find that your site is soon removed from the directory.

Lind Popularity – A Never-Ending Story

Increasing link popularity is a full-time job. Just after starting your site spend a set amount of time each week on link building. The most important link you can have is a one way link. That means you are not trading links to get links. Reciprocal linking strategies have far less value than they once did. Your time will be much better spent getting incoming, one way links.

The most efficient ways to get one way links is by constantly submitting articles to article directories and ezines. In most cases you are allowed to put one to three links into each of your articles. If your articles are well written they will be widely distributed. That means you will be building scores of one way links.

Patience, patience and even more patience are the most important part in building link popularity.

Link Popularity – No Link Farms

There are some sites that you just don’t want linking to your site, so be sure you don’t ask for links from them, or accept their offer to trade links. Link farms are link poison. They exist only for linking. They add no value to the internet. Search engines hate them. Never submit your site to a link farm.

Never accept an offer to exchange links with a gambling. They will kill your chances for link popularity.

Finally… the very best link is one that comes from a site whose theme is related to yours. A link from a health site to your health site, a link from a sports site to your sports site… those are top quality links. Those are called “relevant links”, they are the highest quality links and will go a long way to building your link popularity.

Keep thinking linking!

The History of the Basketball Uniform – Basketball Jerseys – The Sport

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr Frank Naismith and the Basketball Uniform players wore back then are very different than what is found on the courts today. The Basketball Jersey was simply a short sleeve shirt and instead of shorts, men wore Basketball Pants that were loose fitting to allow for the movement required to play the games. The Boston Rubber Shoe Company introduced the Converse All Star in 1917 and the shoe became part of the Basketball Uniform, worn by all who played the game in that era. As time went by and the game became more popular, the Basketball Uniform began to change to become more functional. First the Basketball Pants got shorter and shorter until they became basketball shorts. The short sleeve shirts were altered and changed until they morphed into what are now known as a Basketball Jersey. To distinguish one player for another numbers were added first on the front of the Basketball Jersey, then onto the back where they could be larger and more visible to the referees and statisticians. In the 1960s and 1970s the Basketball Uniform was characterized by short shorts and tank tops for the Basketball Jersey. Shoes continued to be important but not all players wore converse all stars as other brands competed. Some companies even began paying players to wear their shoes on the court. Headbands and wristbands became standard wear during that time and they continue to be worn today. Throughout its evolution, the Basketball Uniform has sought a compromise between style and functionality. Players and fans want to look good, have maximum mobility, and be proud to be identified with their team. The Basketball Jersey and Basketball Pants of yesterday may have changed, but the idea behind their design has remained consistent.
