Seven Steps Towards Freedom from Panic Attacks

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Your trolley is half full, mind trying desperately to remember that item you know you’ve forgotten, something for dinner, or was it the bathroom, looking along the rows of checkouts, shortest queue… fastest queue… it’s so busy… so many people… can’t move… can’t get past… palms starting to get a little slippery on the handle… it’s hot in here… where’s the exit… not too far away… people in front… people behind now… feeling trapped… why can’t she scan faster… why can’t you have your card ready to pay instead of spending 10 minutes rooting around in the bottom of your bag keeping us all waiting… heart rate increasing… mouth getting a little dry… people looking at me… finding it difficult to breathe… can’t get any air in… going to faint… need to escape… need to get out…

If any of that sounds familiar, then you probably know all about panic attacks. Well you probably know all about them from the inside. You will also know all about how after that first time you experienced one – whether it was in a supermarket, cinema, theatre, aircraft, out in a busy street…, you became wary. Wary of going out; wary of trusting your body not to let you down; wary of people being around you, especially strangers.

You’re not sure but you think you might have been having a heart attack, or a severe drop in blood pressure, or a brain tumour. So you visit your doctor who checks you out very thoroughly and pronounces that you are as fit as a fiddle. ‘You’ve probably just had a panic attack’, opens the door and bids you farewell as if you’ve been wasting his/her valuable time, or as if this collapse of your whole world is the most trivial of health problems and ranks with a minor cut or bruise.

But you know that something is wrong. Seriously wrong.

And quite suddenly your world was no longer safe. But the worst part of it was, that deep down, you knew it wasn’t your world that was the problem. It was you. Your body was no longer reliable. You couldn’t trust it to keep you safe and comfortable. And the nightmarish aspect of it all was that you couldn’t predict when it would let you down. I mean you’ve shopped in supermarkets quite happily all your life, but now they are dangerous places and perhaps best avoided, or only visited with a trusted and close friend so that if anything happens there will be someone with you to deflect the embarrassment.

Then you have another.

Step 1: Decide right NOW that you will do whatever you need to do in order to free yourself from this problem.

That’s when life gets really difficult and your world starts to close down quite quickly. You can never be sure when the next one will hit so you avoid anything that even slightly reminds you of the circumstances surrounding a previous Attack.

Step 2: As soon as you notice yourself hyperventilating (rapid breathing/breathlessness/difficulty breathing in), just close your mouth – and keep it closed.

The only problem you have is Fear. Fear of what might happen to you. Fear of dying. Fear of ending up in hospital. Fear of being carted away in an ambulance. Fear of lying on the floor with a circle of people around you. Fear of acute embarrassment. Fear of not being able to ever go back to that place in case someone recognises you.

So just forget for a minute what the fear is about, because that’s just cosmetic. Fear is the problem.

Step 3: Just accept that during a panic attack you are frightened. Don’t pretend anything else is going on.

Now, if you were out wandering alone in the African bush and there just 30 feet away was a full grown rhinoceros, you wouldn’t be at all surprised if your heart rate increased suddenly. If it then took a step towards you, you wouldn’t be in the least surprised to find your breathing rate increasing, your mouth getting a little dry, your gut feeling uncomfortable and so on.

Interestingly these are exactly the same ’symptoms’ that you experienced while having a panic Attack. In the supermarket it was an embarrassment. Here it could save your life. Increased heart rate gets more oxygen to your muscles so you can run or fight, or climb a tree, rapid breathing gets more oxygen in your blood, dry mouth is an indication of a withdrawal of fluids from your extremities so that in the case of injury you won’t lose so much blood. Gut discomfort so that if the worst comes to the worst you can easily create a smelly distraction to give you time to escape (this evolved in the days before underwear was invented). Your body is working perfectly to keep you safe. And you feel pleased that it does so.

Yet when your body does exactly the same thing in the supermarket, you are unhappy with it. Maybe we should get supermarkets to stock rhinoceroses!

You can’t have a panic attack if you are smiling.

Step 4: Next time you feel those first warning signs, have a look round, with a smile on your face, and ask yourself ‘Where’s the rhinoceros?’

What causes all those ’symptoms’? It’s adrenaline, released by the adrenal glands sitting on top of your kidneys. Adrenaline is a hormone and consequently is produced in tiny amounts that have instantaneous effects on a whole range of body processes. Now what you might not know is that your mind can’t tell the difference between fact and fantasy. Just picture yourself cutting a juicy, bright yellow lemon in half, picking up a piece, holding it under your nose and breathing in that wonderful fresh scent and then gently squeezing it until sour lemony juice drips onto the tip of your tongue. I’ll be very surprised if you don’t get an increased saliva flow – yet there’s no lemon, just a mental image. Your brain really can’t tell the difference between real and imagined, fact or fantasy.

Adrenaline is produced in response to danger – perceived or real. So if a mild fear thought about say, finances, relationships, getting home in time, problems at work, socially and so on wanders through your mind, you might not notice it, but your adrenal glands will. Now physiologically sensitive people will notice the effects immediately, focus on them and worry what they mean. This is another fear thought and releases more adrenaline. Then you notice the intensification of symptomology and think ‘oh my God! I was right to be worried, it’s getting worse’. This is another fear thought, releasing yet more adrenaline, and so the whole process snowballs and before you know where you are you are in the middle of a full blown panic attack, and you have no idea where it came from because you weren’t noticing all the individual little steps that happened so fast it seemed instantaneous.

Step 5: Remind yourself that you aren’t going to die. No matter how bad you feel, no one has ever died from a panic attack.

Step 6: Remind yourself you are ONLY feeling the effects of an adrenaline release.

You may not know why the adrenaline was released. You may not be able to track down the thought that released it, but all you are dealing with is an adrenaline release that is either escalating, or reducing. When it starts to die down, because you haven’t done the physical stuff, like running away or fighting, you will still feel uncomfortable, this is when you may feel light-headed, get jelly-legs or feel a bit wobbly or nauseous. It’s still just adrenaline you’re suffering from. You’d be more likely to die without it than with it.

Step 7: Carry a notebook and pen with you at all times. If you experience yourself having a panic attack, get the notebook out and start to make a note of all the symptoms you are experiencing and make a pact with yourself that whenever you do this you will continue writing down your symptoms (you could score them on a scale of intensity of 1 to 10 as well if you like) until they start to reduce. As soon as you notice them start to lessen you can go from wherever you are to somewhere ’safer’, but you must stay in the place where the symptoms first became noticeable until they start to diminish.

When you do this you break the Fear Cycle.

When you break the Fear Cycle you are on the road to freedom.

Are You a One-Punch Advertiser? Take It From a Boxer, There’s a Better Way to Reach Customers

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I am not a huge guy, in fact I am about 5′8″, 175 lbs. In addition to designing business brands that help companies build more confidence and credibility, I am a boxer. Much to my family’s chagrin, particularly my Dad who ponied up the money for my braces when I was young. Thankfully, I still have all of my teeth and faculties, and I’d like to share what boxing has taught me about advertising more effectively.

It wasn’t until I read something in Permission Marketing, by Seth Godin
that I saw a strong similarity between boxing and promoting my business. My goal
as a boxer is to knock the other guy out so he/she can’t fight anymore – that’s
how I win. In marketing and advertising for my business, my goal is to
reach and attract new prospects and clients.

The similarity lays within the different strategies both marketers and boxers
can use to accomplish their goal. Boxer behemoths like Mike Tyson and George Foreman
can go for the one-punch knock out to accomplish their goals (knocking someone’s
teeth out), just as IBM, Monster.com and Ford can run one Superbowl advertisement
and attract a load of new prospects. Most of us, including me, don’t have
the size or muscle of Mike Tyson or Ford, so we might consider another approach.

If you are looking for the best approach in either boxing or advertising, the
key to success (unless you’re Mike Tyson or IBM) is frequency. Take me for example:
I am not very big and neither is my business, so neither of us has the
resources to make a one-punch knockout count.

Spending all of my resources (either time, money or energy) on one roll of the dice isn’t a good idea. I don’t have the weight or the muscle for that to work, and if you own a small business, you probably don’t either. But that’s okay, just because we’re not huge doesn’t me we can still accomplish our goals; we just have to use a different strategy.

In advertising, the one-punch knock out used to work so much better, there was less competition, less products to choose from and people didn’t have so many distractions. Things are different now, and even if someone sees your ad there’s a fair chance they might not pay attention to it. So it makes sense not to evaluate or invest all of your money into one ad, that’s where persistence and frequency come in.

Did you know that your prospects need to see your ad at least 3 times
for it to sink in
? I know, it’s insane, but research has proven it time
and time again. And if you’ve ever watched boxing, how often does someone go down
in the first 3 punches? It almost never happens.

So you want to avoid what most business owners make the mistake in doing in that
they run one advertisement and then pull the plug on campaign. Remember the boxing
analogy, one-punch knockouts rarely happen. It’ll take persistence and
frequency
to get your prospect’s attention and to get him or her to take
action, but if you keep at it, you’ll succeed.

Keep on punching!

How to Break a Bad Habit

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Millions of people around the world make new years resolutions each year. A very high percentage of them are in hopes of breaking bad habits that have seemly overtaken their lives, but have left many disappointed, and realizing just how difficult breaking bad habits can actually be.

To break bad habits one must first understand what they are and how they developed them in the first place. Until one can really understand how bad habits are developed, they will never accomplish the task of getting rid of them. So I have personally put in thousand of hours to find effective ways in helping people get rid of there bad habits, of which, I am now ready to share my conclusion with those who have an interest. So let’s get started.

What Are Bad Habits?

Bad habits are repetitious actions, deeds, and motives that have no profitable outcome for one’s life at all. In almost all cases, bad habits either do harm to a person’s body, causes them to look bad, feel shame, get in trouble with the law or there spouse, lose friends and love ones, or to spend a lot of money helping them start the repetitious process all over again. It sounds like something someone would really want to be a part of huh? Well, don’t be surprised, there are millions of people throughout the world who are trapped, hooked and overtaken by bad habits, and some would do almost anything to get freed from them!

How Do People Develop Bad Habits?

Most people develop bad habits by practicing or emulating what they see or hear in others. People in general have a tendency to pick up a little “Character Development” from here and there, although often time, the very thing they pick up is definitely not what they need.

There is also a percentage of New Born Babies born with what I call “Fixations”. They are born with that something within that cause various behaviors not taught nor exposed to them, to manifest themselves in their characteristics at a very young age. For instance, you didn’t have to teach little Johnny to lie about the cookies he took out of the cookie jar when you weren’t around, although, you did ask him if he had taken the cookies, and of course, he said no. Did you teach little Johnny to tell that lie? No you did not, but it was in there all the time, he was born with it in him. But there is good news; all bad habits can be broken!

Surely most bad habits weren’t developed over night, and I can assure you, most bad habits won’t go away over night either. But those who take in the following information will surely find their way to victory over bad habits:

Instead of making new years resolutions every New Years Eve, start making changes by replacing every bad habit with a better habit. That’s right! It’s just that simple. Most people try to go “Cold Turkey” when it comes down to breaking a bad habit. But I have found out in my personal experience, that if a person would find something they enjoy doing (that’s not a bad habit of course), and they don’t mind it becoming habitual, then that person should gradually replace the bad habit with the better habit until the better habit becomes the new habit. How is this task accomplish, buy simply being conscious of every time the bad habits manifest themselves, and then stopping the bad habits one by one immediately once noticed, while at the same time implementing the new things you enjoy doing until they becomes the replaced habits.

Sincerely written by,

Michael Bell

How To Start Your Online Business In A Matter Of Few Minutes And Still Rake In Thousands Of Dollars

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Would you like to rake in $10,466 per month without having your own products? If you would like to then read on…

1. So What Is It?

It is called affiliate marketing. It, as a matter of fact, is one of the easiest and fastest ways to start your online business and rake in thousands of dollars every month.

2. What’s Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing simply to say is promoting other people’s product and in return you’ll get certain percentage of the merchant’s item if and only people who buy the merchant’s item buy through your link.

So we can say some sort of online multi level marketing.

Why I said that? Because many of these programs have 2-tier which means you can refer another affiliate below you. Whenever he or she makes sales you’ll get certain percentage of those sales.

3. How do I get started?

Well, first off, you have to identify which niche you want in? For example if you are a maniac golfer, then the chance you’re more likely to promote golf equipment rather than fishing equipment.

Then estimate the competition, go to Google and type in your appropriate term for example “beginner golf guide” and see how much sites on that subject already exist?

For me personally, I don’t care much about the competition if you have more crowded competition that means you’ll need to wait longer to make profits and so vice versa. It’s just that simple.

However, be sure to do something you really love, because in the end it will be life and death of your business.

4. Let’s Find The “Eager-To-Give You Money” Merchant

Now you should have roughly figure on which niche you want to in. The next thing we’re going to do is find potential merchant that could bring you the potential income you always dream of. To faster the process we are going to choose them from affiliate programs directory. Affiliate programs directory is site that already does the hard-work for us in selecting which one the potential merchant, so you just need to pinpoint which one you want to embrace.

Some of the best are: www.associateprograms.com www.5staraffiliatepr ograms.com

5. Skyscraper Website versus “Mini” Content Site

As the time writing, there’re 2 current opinions:

The first state in order to get money from affiliate program you have to build skyscraper site and fill it with hundreds of content while

The second state in order to get money from affiliate program you have to build multiple stream of mini site

Which one that works?

Both work, it is ultimately up to you which one you want to adopt for example of the first one in action you can see www.sage-hearts.com which has been running by Rosalind Gardner while the second one you can see www.dominatesearchengi ne.com which has been running by Anik Singal (Actually, I haven’t ask their permission to cover their web site in this article but I bet they wouldn’t mind)

Both is very respected and highly acclaimed both affiliate marketer and internet marketer.

Here’re the pros and cons:

If you decide to build mini site then you’ll have to forget the possibility of getting traffic from generic search engine.

If you decide to build skyscraper content site then you’ll have to invest considerable amount of time and energy to build it.

Don’t re-invent the wheel there’s no point in doing so just follow what already works. Examine both of their sites carefully and see which part you can adapt to your business model. (But mark my words don’t copy them words-by-words!)

6. Ready to Drive Traffic?

Now you have proven business model at your disposal, it is the time to drive traffic to your site. I’d recommend first off you start by going to build reciprocal link campaign. Reciprocal link is the act of exchanging link between two sites in hope to send traffic to each other.

Let’s put it into action…

Once again type in your keywords on search engine, next click on each of the site you found, if you like this site then examine it carefully. Are they having something like “submit URL” or “add URL”?

If they have click on the link there should be simple self-explanatory instruction to exchange your link with that website but what if they didn’t have one? Just contact them through email or phone and ask if they’re willing to do reciprocal link with you.

What’s great about this method? Here’s what will happen…

Let’s say after doing reciprocal link for one month in the end of the month you get 30 links. Each one refer one people per day to your site, now you already have 30 people visit your site without you doing a thing. In one month you will get 900 people visit your site on completely auto pilot. That’s the beauty of reciprocal link-)

What happen if you can manage to get 200 links?

7. Final Note

Like any of other endeavors if you expect some results it means hard work and persistence. Don’t expect result in a week I tell you that wouldn’t happen but expect in a year or so. Trust me though it seems long far away at the beginning but in the end your perseverance will pay off many times.

Friend or Foe: Who Are You Competing With in the Global Market?

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Everybody’s talking about the competition. “Find out what the competition’s doing.” “Don’t let the competition elbow you out.” Exactly who is this invisible enemy and how can you wipe said foe off the selling map as everyone would suggest you do?

In the topsy-turvy world of internet marketing, are your friends your enemies, and your enemies your friends? It would seem so. Perhaps we should refer to such people as our “frenemies.”

Let’s talk about the word competition. The American Heritage Dictionary defines competition in several ways, two relevent ones being:

1. n. A business relation in which two parties compete to gain customers.

2. n. Rivalry between two or more businesses striving for the
same customer or market.

The first definition depicts competition as an event, and the second one portrays it as a state of being. Either way, in both cases the two parties are working against each other, dipping from the same bucket. The proverbial bucket is really your target customer pool.

So: how to figure out if a colleague is your ally or competition? The easiest way to do this is to define your target customer, and then define theirs. Define it in the way that all the true-blue old-school marketers would; isolate the key demographics and psychographics.

That means:

Gender/age
Income bracket
Location
Lifestyle
Core values
Fears and emotional needs

Do you share the same identical audience AND same product offering as someone who you’re worried might be a competitor? Or is there a subtle shade of difference between what each of you is peddling?

Think about that web surfer. If he visits “the other guy” at his website, and then visits yours, can he make a distinction between what each of you sells? If he can’t, then you’re looking square into the Eyes of the Enemy. Okay, maybe “enemy” is a bit harsh. We’re all friends in this big, happy marketing world, right? Well… not always.

The truth is, you may find it difficult to forge any sort of relationship with someone whose product offering mirrors yours. Yes, instead of getting all palsy-walsy with said person, you may find yourself skulking about his website, gleaning coveted tricks and then fleeing in the hopes that he doesn’t collect IP addresses. Which he probably does, if he’s anyone important.

An example of clear-cut competition: GoDaddy.com and Earthlink.net. Nope, there’s no way those two arch enemies are forming an alliance anytime soon… unless someone puts some money up and one gets bought out, from whence they become one and the same to the outside world.

But what about when you and the other person are pandering to the same audience but selling two different things? What if they offer a product, and you offer a service?

Suppose you’re a dietician offering services and consultations, and JackandtheBeanSprout.com is not a dietician, but they offer health-related books and products on their website. So: are they your competitor, or no?

This dilemma requires a case-by-case comparison. In the case of the broadheading of your two businesses, no you’re not *exactly* competition. But there may come a time when the two of you are pushing books about exercise equipment to the same gosh darned target audience for more or less the same price.

In that instance, you may temporarily take opposing sides of the same marketing coin and become competitors… but that’s just in one instance. In another instance, JackandtheBeanSprout.com may choose to chase the population of old geezers with offers for exercise equipment. Meanwhile, you’re pitching a new service to health practitioners. Suddenly, you’re friends again.

Is there a way to capitalize on your relations with a businessperson who shares your general niche? Why, sure there is. Form an alliance. Become their affiliate. If the new exercise equipment the other guy is selling to seniors works nicely as a side dish to your own crop of offerings, why not cut a deal with old Jack? There, now everyone gets a slice of the pie. Not bad for a couple of rivals, huh.

At times you may keep your tongue firmly planted in the side of your face as you spout off glorious words on your marketing rival/friend’s behalf to your own audience, but it’s all part of the Opportunist Game. If you want to run with the big marketing dogs, you must learn the rules. And you must keep a cool head!

There is no *real* loyalty in the selling world. Business associates are fair-weather friends, at least in the business context… and there is a price tag attached to what they can do for you. So if they officially become your competition on Sunday, just ride it out for however long the fever takes to die down over what they’re offering… and in the interim, plot your next move.

Your next move in the market will of course depend on the outcome of the buzz that they created. In what direction is the audience headed? Is technology remolding the average consumer mindset and making your product or service obsolete? If so, then you must move with the times. Move, grow, evolve, acquire, change, merge, switch directions, switch tactics. Remember that you’re not leading your audience; they’re really leading YOU.

If you stop thinking of your business competition in black and white terms and start thinking categorically and multi-directionally, you may find yourself traveling side roads to riches that you never thought possible. So, is that other guy your competitor? Yes… and… no.

What Exactly is a Dildo and could Girls Acquire a Lovely Smile from one?

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

A sex dildo is a traditional sensual aid put to good use by both boys and girls. Dongs have wonderfully made it big ever since sex movies became likeable in the seventies. Whilst dongs come in innumerable shapes, most often the dildos are tool shaped. Some marital aids are specially built for insertion in the anus. Blokes who like bum sexual intercourse with a sexual toy repeatedly choose dongs that play with the prostate because of the outstanding orgasms prostate massage gives them. There are various martial toys out there for lads, and dongs are the best.

The most common sex dildo uses are vaginal or bum penetration. Depending on the sort of sex dong, some can often be used for oral penetration or as mouth gags. Regardless of your sexual preference, whether you are straight, gay or bi, female or male, there is a marital aid out there to fulfil your sex needs. Double ended dildos might often be played on between 2 sex partners at once. All of these sexy toys will be used for simultaneous anal and bum penetration, and when played with in this fashion adult play should be much more exciting. Dongs don’t forget slip into harness mounts for bondage sex sessions. Dongs are unbelievable fun and sexual toy any guy should have in their flat. You can always get a bargain with Cheap Dildos.

4 Easy Steps to Staying on Track

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” -Henry Ford

What are your goals and objectives? There’s the whole concept of vision, mission, and purpose. These are broad statements of what’s important to you in your lives. Then there are the more long term / strategic goals that you want to accomplish. Breaking down these strategic goals even further into short term objectives help you get where you’re going and will contribute to your vision, mission, and purpose. These are all important things to know to be able to stay on track.

Case study
In a recent sample, only 40% of people surveyed were satisfied with the progress they were making toward accomplishing their goals. The major reason for not progressing was that they didn’t know where they were going. It’s especially difficult to make progress in getting to where you’re going is you don’t know where that is.

Steps:
1. Figure out where you’re going
Ahh, this is always an interesting question. In fact, even more interesting, to figure out where you’re going you have to know where you are now. How would you describe where you are now? Are you in harmony with your world? Do you have supportive relationships within your environment? What is most important to you in your life? Take a few moments to ponder this. Write down whatever comes to mind. As you list these concepts you will find that there is most likely a common theme. What is it that’s key to your being? What is at your core? If you had to pick one thing that is most important to your vision what would that be?

Once you’ve figured out what that is, the other ideas you’ve written down seem to fall into place. As you tie them into your theme, you will find that that some of these goals are part of a larger objective.

Exercise:
Take a few moments to reflect upon what’s really important in your life. What is your legacy? How do you want others to remember you?

Fill in the your answers to the following:

a. Vision:

___________________________________________________________

b. Mission

c. Purpose

2. Use a hub that is always with you
Whatever you choose must fit who you are. Do you prefer to use a journal, a portfolio, a planner, a pda (personal digital assistant), or a laptop? These are all common options for people in today’s fast-paced world. Do you like to jot down your ideas as they arise? Perhaps you like to doodle when you talk to people. Your free-form notes may take the form of a mind map.

3. Organize your to-do lists by type of action that you need to take.
When you have a few free moments or you’re in your car, it’s a great time to make phone calls – that is – if you have a call list. Have you ever noticed that whatever the type of activity, things move very quickly “when you’re on a roll.” Other kinds of groupings might include reading, writing, research on the internet research, key info into your computer, meetings, errands, and the waiting list. It can be a great sense of accomplishment when a to-do item shifts from one list to another, especially now that “the ball’s in the other person’s court.” The item has moved off your list to someone else’s. It doesn’t mean that you totally drop it form your list; it just means you shift it from one “active” list to one that’s more passive. You still need to check on it, at whatever interval you deem is appropriate for your expectations. There’s also that list of things to do that would be nice to do, but aren’t high on the priority list; this is the “someday / maybe” list.

4. Work on projects when your energy is high
Are you a morning person and begin to fade at 3 in the afternoon? Perhaps you’re someone who just gets into gear mid- to late afternoon or even later. Whatever your body clock is, work with it. If you’re a morning personal, mid-afternoon would not be the time to take on a new project. Conversely, if you get into gear later in the day, early morning meetings and deliverables can really present a challenge. When you’re part of a team, working with your teammates at your peak performance time is not always possible. Perhaps your contributions to the team can be done when you’re at your best; the timing may not matter depending upon how you structure the project itself and how individuals contribute to the team.

This list is by no means comprehensive, but these will get you off to a good start.
